Photo of the Day – Christmas Eve Sunrise Over The Halifax River

I woke up late at 6:40 this morning, turned on the coffee pot, threw my camera gear together and headed over to the river to catch the sunrise. It’s about a five minute drive with the old Jeep.

Wonderful warm colors about 10 minutes before suggested a colorful sunrise to come. This image is right at the moment the sun broke through the morning clouds.

It was a lot warmer this morning. The local radio station WNDB 1150 reported the 7:00 a.m. temperature at 59 degrees. That’s about perfect for this time of year.

I set up the tripod for this photo and used a remote shutter control. The aperture was set at f/22 to get as much detail as possible. I really wanted to get the highlights in the clouds. The star burst pattern in the sun was a bonus. I couldn’t see that looking directly into the sun.

I shot about 70 photos on this side of the river and then headed across to the beachside and shot about 30 more from the park there. The Ormond Beach Halifax River bridge is unique for having parks on all four corners of the the bridge. This photo was shot from the southwest corner.

On the other side is the winter home of John D. Rockefeller, The Casements. That’s where I went to get some for photos that I will post later.
