The Brown Brown Grass of Home – Florida Freeze Photo

Brown Grass Not Seen Before in My Florida

I have never seen brown grass like this in my more than 26 years of living in Florida. Today’s photo shows our new brown lawn, courtesy of the January 2010 freeze.

I’ve spent about 26 years in Orlando, Mayport, Seminole on the Gulf Coast, and the last 15 years in the Daytona Beach area. In all that time, I have not seen the grass turn this brown. The first shot is the lawn and one of the palms that both turned brown. The second shot is a detail of a patch that looks like the old homestead in Pennsylvania.

There’s still a bit of green grass left around the palm in the center of the yard, but most of our lawn and all the lawns in the neighborhood are brown. I’m fairly certain that it will come back and turn green. We had some rain a few days ago and that should help and temperatures are back up to near normal.

I’m thinking I may be able to use the second photo as a background. It actually has a pretty nice pattern.

As I said in another post last week, this is the longest cold spell that I’ve experienced during my time in Florida. I hope that’s all the cold for the year.
