Photo – Sunrise at Manila Airport

Photo of the Day – Sunrise in Manila

In a fog after waking up at 3 a.m. for a 6:30 flight, I was staring out the window at the airport gate waiting to board. I had no idea what a glorious sunrise awaited.

I shot this photo on one of my many trips to the Philippines with an old Olympus FE-20 that I bought at Sam’s Club for $99. It’s a low end camera. It was a short time later that I bought my Olympus E-520. This shot was taken by the camera. I pointed it and it did the work. Still it turned out pretty good.

There’s nothing I could do about the streaks on the window, but I did manage to get the sun positioned behind the tail of the plane.  A Japanese gentleman got pretty much the same shot and we moved in and out as we each took several shots.

I’m adding a second version of this photo to show the use of a Photoshop filter called Topaz Adjust. There is a lot you can do with this filter, but I like the selection called Photo Pop. This filter adds a little detail and color saturation to the photo. In this case it’s minor, but I think it enhances the photo nicely.

The filter pretty much lives up to it’s name – it adds a little pop.
